Marius Ghenea (ROM)

Marius is known as businessman, business angel, serial entrepreneur and professor of entrepreneurship.

Marius’s entrepreneurial experience starts in 1994, with the setting-up of Flamingo Computers, a company he co-founded with several university colleagues, being its general manager and one of the shareholders for eight years. Started from the ground, the company becomes, in only four years, the leader of the Romanian computer market. Subsequently, the company goes international, with branches opened in Eastern Europe and the Netherlands. In 2001, Marius sells his participation in Flamingo Computers and becomes involved in his own business projects. As such, in 2002 Marius sets up FIT Distribution and becomes the CEO of Flanco International, one of the main electronic appliances retail networks in Romania, a position he holds until 2005.

Marius becomes interested in online business in 2006, together with the launch of an online sales website, one of the first e-commerce initiatives in Romania -pcfun.ro. In addition, he starts investing in business angel project, in companies from various industries, such as PCGarage.ro (IT&C products retail website), Casia Communications in indoor-media (exit in 2010), Orbital Solution in installations, VikingProfil – Romanian metallic tiles producer (exit 2008), Italian Coffee Concept, owner of the franchize for Testa Rossa coffee shops in Romania, Online Fashion Group (the online fashion mall FashionUp.ro), etc.

Since 2007, he’s been a permanent guest of the TV show “Dragon’s Den”, dedicated to business angel-type investments and to educating the Romanian public on the development of their entrepreneurial spirit and on sustainable business projects. In addition, he’s the president of the Romanian Association of Online Shops, Board Advisor for Venture Connect Forum, Board Member in the Community Foundations Program and Expert Reviewer for the European Venture Contest.

In addition to his being a business angel, an investor and a serial entrepreneur, Marius supports numerous training and leadership programs for young people and for established entrepreneurs and is constantly invited to lecture within various events on topics such as entrepreneurship, IT or retail. Last but not least, Marius is professor of entrepreneurship for the Executive MBA program within the Maastricht School of Management in Romania.
