Jose Marin (ESP)

Jose started his professional career as a consultant at The Boston Consulting Group.

In 1999 he co-founded DeRemate.com (replica of eBay for Latin America). The company raised over 75 million USD in capital, did a partial cash-out sale to Terra and later merged with Mercado Libre that went Public in Nasdaq (end of 2006 at $2 billion USD).

Jose was the founding partner and Managing Director of eVision Partners, an investment company in the technology space for emerging markets. In this adventure, participated in projects such as Bazee (auctions sold to eBay in 2005) and eDreams (Pan European Travel site sold to TA Associates in 2006).

Currently Jose is the Managing Director and co-founder of IG Expansion. IG takes successful internet business models into emerging markets, mainly Spain and Latin America. IG is not a VC fund, equity comes from its partners. IG invests the initial US$ 2- 4 M per project and shares a 20-30% stake with the management team, attractive scheme for entrepreneurs to join.

IG launched 5 projects in its first phase, 4 of them successfully exited.

IG is currently working in its second phase: 6 Internet projects, where the company plans to invest USD 25 M. Four of the 6 are already operating. Jose is responsible for identifying Internet business models to replicate them in emerging markets, coordinates funding and launch.

Jose is also founder of Serendipity Investments, company that has invested in 48 start-ups. Currently 42 active investments, one liquidated and 5 exits yielding over 2.5 x return on the total capital invested.

Jose holds an MBA and an MA in International development Economics from Stanford.
